Rosa Passos is often compared to João Gilberto (whom she considers her master and already paid tribute to on her album “Amorosa”) because of her pose and the prosody of her poetry.
When Yo-Yo Ma discovered her it had the effect of an hurricane boosting her career throughout the world, from the United States to Europe.
Rosa Passos, singer, composer and author, has not only worked with some of the great Masters such as Ivan Lins, Chico Buarque, Paquito D’Rivera, Ron Carter and Yo-Yo Ma, but also composed for many other artists.
Elis Regina was one of them. On that subject Rosa says: “I own a real treasure, a message that Elis wrote to me when I recorded two songs for her to sing. We had a meeting that had to be postponed, as Elis had some unexpected urgency, but left me a note of apology asking to forward my recordings to her office in Sao Paulo”, Elis died shortly after that and “I kept the songs , with no heart to do anything with them. I only broke the taboo in 1996 when I recorded ‘Samba com pressa’ and in 2006 decided it was time to record ‘Edredon'”. Rosa’s extremely good taste in music is shinning through her whole work where only the best on brazilian music can be found.
Stating about the unique interpretation that Rosa puts into each and every song is nearly an impossible task due to the excellent quality of her work. She truly opens her heart, she sings from the depths of her soul .
Rosa Passos´ phrasing is unique and without parallel. Sometimes she is able to put her emotion in just one syllable leaving the listener totally mesmerized and stunned.
In this new concert Rosa Passos features her latest work “É luxo só”, a tribute to Elizeth Cardoso and also the work that is now in progress for a following album: a tribute to Djavan.
