Brazil is such a vast musical world that it’s cliché to mention the countless undiscovered treasures, since talent abounds in this musical and tropical paradise. But the truth is that there are. And one of them is called Anna Setton.
The singer and author from São Paulo is a special figure: she shaped her voice navigating the nightlife of São Paulo, traveled the world alongside the great Toquinho for five years, immersed herself in the lakes of jazz, bossa nova and MPB and emerged with fresh, original and vibrant music that she began presenting in 2018 on her eponymous debut album, a vehicle for music and ideas that took her across Brazil and from there to Europe for several concerts that were as intimate as they were applauded.
In 2020, when the pandemic hit the world, Anna, eager to stay connected to music and her audience, turned to the guitar as her tool of expression and began a series of weekly live show cases where she covered repertoire from the popular songbook, a kind of emotional self-portrait based on the words and melodies of others. This gave rise to the idea of an album, Onde Mora Meu Coração (Where My Heart Lies), which she released last December. This guitar and voice work includes a duet with the living legend Omara Portuondo, a true queen of the Cuban music scene.
O Futuro é mais Bonito is the title of Anna Setton’s latest album, released on February 24, 2023.
An album recorded in Recife with some of the greatest young talents from this part of Brazil.
With the help of these composers who understand how to innovate the classic MPB molds, Anna sings words of her own authorship, establishing herself more and more as an author.
