Tour 2022/23 – the project

The term World Music seems to have been created exactly to describe gatherings like this. More than a crossover between Norway and Portugal, this concert will present a mix of creative ideas that draw on the Portuguese and Nordic traditions. Masters Seglem and Kyao have worked together for about 10 years. Now it is time for a re-union to follow the successful fusion of musical and human “landscapes”, create new journeys and also join younger musicians from both countries. This musical collaboration has been growing for years – and exciting sounds of music are realised and will now be developed.

We can expect an intense degree of communication, between Karl, Rão and Francisco – and also between this new band. It is clear that they are looking for new inspiration and developing traditions. It is also a musical collaboration between generations who make new sounds together. And music is a way of telling stories and describing the world, meditating and travelling. The fact that concert reviews of both Karl Seglem and Rão Kyao always mention a mystical element allows us to predict that in this music there will be many magical moments. Karl promises a concert full of “spaces and surprises, strong melodies, imaginative improvisations and with something he thinks Norway and Portugal also have in common: The melancholy/saudade”.
