#1 Amazon’s World Music Chart Japan
Nancy Vieira and Fred Martins present Esperança (Hope), the new show based on the album of the same title released by the Japanese label Respect Record, which reached No. 1 on Amazon’s World Music Chart (Japan).
Since 2013, the year they met, Cape Verdean singer Nancy Vieira and Brazilian composer and guitarist Fred Martins have had a unique complicity, which is reflected in this work. Recorded by Jorge Cervantes – who plays a special part in the song ‘Saiko Dayo’ – at CervanteStudio in Lisbon, the work features mostly Nancy’s vocals, along with Fred’s guitar and vocals. Esperança, which opens with ‘Não Sou Daqui’ – the duo have reinterpreted the song by singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Amélia Muge – brings us the best of morna and bossa nova, in an evocative mix of Cape Verdean and Brazilian music. With love and peace as the guiding threads, the disc features originals and traditional songs from Cape Verde, ending with the Cuban bolero ‘Tú Me Acostumbraste’.
